Is this a real payment, or just a pitch?
This is an active market. Our licensing partner says it has paid firms with 60 to 100 people between $350,000 and $650,000; Google's $10 million winning bid for Spirit Airlines' records appears in a federal court filing. These transactions involved other firms, not Pewter. You'll see your offer in writing before making a commitment, and many firms receive offers below these amounts.
What will I have to pay?
There is no charge at any point. When a deal closes, our licensing partner pays Pewter a fee. No deal means no fee.
Who handles which parts, and who is your client?
Pewter qualifies the opportunity, identifies the size of your records, presents the offer and coordinates the deal. Our licensing partner makes the offer, signs the license with you and pays you; you'll know its identity before signing. Since the partner pays our fee, neither your lawyer nor your agent is what we are. We aren't a law firm or registered broker-dealer, and we recommend that your own counsel review the agreement.
Does my data go away?
No. The transaction licenses an agreed copy that's de-identified. Your source files remain yours, and ownership doesn't change.
Could clients or employees be identified?
Before delivery, we remove or replace names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details. You may exclude regulated, privileged or third-party records. Since no method eliminates all risk, you inspect a sample and the process before signing. Our approach to records.
Who sees my records before I sign?
Only with your consent. We might request a small sample to assess quality before an offer; Pewter or the licensing partner may examine it. You decide what the sample includes and may refuse. The full export only takes place once you sign.
Who is allowed to use the data, and why?
As specified in your agreement, authorized AI developers may train and evaluate models. The terms you approve state exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, covers the questions and terms to resolve before signing.
How much work will this mean for my team?
You'll spend a few hours on two or three calls and a brief inventory of your systems. If exporting is necessary, your IT person or provider does it while we coordinate. No one needs to make new data or tidy anything.
What if I can't tell what data we have?
That's true for most owners. Name the tools you've used over the years, such as email, shared drives or your accounting or operating system, and we'll determine what's there on the call. To estimate the volume yourself first, our complimentary guide explains where to find the figures in Google, Microsoft 365, Slack and twelve more tools.
Why move quickly?
Labs are buying today. One AI data company by itself has pledged $1 billion during the coming twelve months. Your history holds the value: when subscriptions end or a firm closes, deleted archives take that value with them.
